Digital public infrastructurehatua kwa hatua · step by step

An operating system for artisanal mining.

HATUA gives any cooperative or artisanal mining operator the means to structure its operations: self-assessment against international standards, production reporting, proof of due diligence. The resulting record can be presented to banks, buyers and programmes.

No gate. No owner.A public good.

01

Open to all

Any cooperative, any operator can use HATUA. Access does not depend on a client, a bank or a programme.

02

Owned by no one

HATUA belongs to no single organisation. It is infrastructure maintained as a commons, developed with the support of the European Partnership for Responsible Minerals.

03

Extensible by all

Any organisation can contribute to its expansion: new modules, new standards, new territories.

02 · What it does

Everyday work becomes a verifiable record.

Elsewhere, the operator answers someone else's system. Inside HATUA, the operator is the main actor.

01

Self-assessment

Structured KYC and management-systems forms. Completion and score computed on your own data: know where you stand before anyone asks.

02

Traceability

Production and shipments logged as they happen. Declared volumes can be checked against capacity: plausible, not just claimed.

03

Risk management

Risks, incidents and corrective actions as a running record, not a yearly audit.

04

Portable profile

Filled in once and kept ready: the same record every bank, buyer or programme asks for. Shared only by the operator's choice: sovereignty, down to the record.

03 · Data vault

A data vault, in the operator's hands.

Information ASM operators store and use at their discretion.

Compliance. Step by step.

  2. 02

Evaluate practices against the standard, evidence attached.

  3. 03

    Mitigate

"Hatua" means "step" in Swahili. Each step is taken by the operator's own team: the record grows, and local capacity grows with it.

05 · Ecosystem

One infrastructure, three interfaces.

HATUA is the operator interface of a distributed due diligence ecosystem: each actor keeps custody of its own data.

HATUA interoperates with the rest of the ecosystem: a profile kept here can feed a bank's onboarding in KOTA directly, with the operator's consent.
